I was on the patrol that brought in the bodies of Sgt. Keith Foran and Pte Ron Rackley. They had been killed by anti-personnel mines about 24 hours earlier, on a patrol that I was on.
| I was doing my stint as stretcher bearer, then I was posted as rear guard on "tail end Charlie" with a Bren machine gun. Just on day break we were along side a mine field and I saw all these papers just sitting in the mine field. I reached over the wire and grabbed a handful, but was not game to go inside the wire to get some more. They were Chinese propaganda leaflets, aimed at enticing the allied soldiers over so they could be taken prisoner or killed. |
